The University of Virginia and Monticello

Deadline for purchasing excursion tickets is July 21. Please purchase your tickets as early as possible. This helps us to plan how many buses to reserve and decreases the chance that all tickets will be gone before you purchase yours.
Adults: $70, Children 12-18: $50, Children 11 and under: $40, Children under 2 sitting in a parent’s lap are free. Tickets include transportation by air-conditioned motor coach and tour tickets for the house and grounds at Monticello.
We have planned a full-day excursion to visit the only UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Virginia: the Academical Village at the University of Virginia and Monticello, home of Thomas Jefferson. Both sites are in Charlottesville, one hour west of Richmond.
Our first stop will be the Academical Village, which includes the Rotunda, the Lawn, gardens with serpentine walls, and the Memorial to Enslaved Laborers. Don’t forget to visit room #13 on the West Range, which has a glass door and period furniture, allowing a glimpse of early university student accomodations. All these sites have free admission. We will have 2.5 hours to explore and get lunch. There are many restaurants and cafes located one block from the Academical Village in an area called “the Corner”.
At 12:30 pm we will board the busses by the University Chapel and take a short bus ride to Monticello. Your ticket includes admission to the grounds and a 45-minute tour of the house. Tours of the house will be in groups of 25 people every 5 minutes. You will be given a ticket with your tour time. There are extensive grounds to explore before and after your tour.
We will depart Monticello at 3:30 pm and arrive back at the STEM Building by 5 pm. After returning, there will be time to get dinner on your own before the final event of the conference, Informal Music and Performance Night at 8:00 pm in the Singleton Center Concert Hall.
Tour Schedule:
8:00 am – Buses load in front of the STEM Building on Franklin Avenue.
8:30 am – Buses depart for Charlottesville.
10:00 am – Arrive in Charlottesville.
10:00 am – 12:30 pm – Explore the Academical Village and get lunch at “the Corner.”
12:30 pm – Buses load at the drop off point on McCormick Rd by the University Chapel.
1:00 pm – Arrive at Monticello.
1:00 – 3:30 pm – Tour house and grounds at Monticello.
3:30 pm – Load buses at Monticello drop off point. Depart for Richmond.
5:00 pm – Arrive at STEM Building.
