We have planned a full-day excursion to a few of Nova Scotia’s most famous sites. We will depart at 9 am from the Richard Murray Design Building (where all talks will take place). Our first stop will be the charming small town of Mahone Bay with its well-known scene of three waterfront churches and century-old architecture.
Our next stop is Lunenburg, one of the prettiest towns in Canada and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A bustling fishing port, Lunenburg was once considered to be the busiest shipbuilding town in the world and was the birthplace of the world-famous racing schooner Bluenose. The town’s distinctive architecture and extraordinary scenic beauty is a colourful reminder of Nova Scotia’s maritime heritage. Upon arrival there will be an optional 25-minute walking tour of the original town plat. From noon to 2pm you will be free to enjoy lunch on your own at one of the many local restaurants and enjoy strolling the town. Lunch is not included in the excursion ticket.
Our final stop is Peggy’s Cove and its famous light house. This village is located on the rugged Atlantic shoreline, standing on solid rock above the crashing surf. Choose between a guided walking tour of the cove or free time to explore on your own. Either way, you will see the weatherworn fishing shacks, colourful buoys and lobster traps still used by local fishermen, and awe-inspiring rock formations that have been carved out by the glaciers of the last Ice Age. We will return to the Richard Murray Design Building at 5 pm.
