The 'Discover the Art of Maths!' interactive exhibition helps visitors understand difficult equations and the logic of maths via simple examples. The current exhibition showcases geometry.

Maths is everywhere – in art, technology, medical science, handicrafts and lots of other spheres. In all walks of life it is important to have a knowledge of the subject. You even see maths in nature. For instance, have you heard of the Fibonacci sequence (named after Leonardo Fibonacci)? In maths, these numbers follow an integer sequence:

0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55, 89, 144, ...

By definition, the first two numbers in the Fibonacci sequence are 0 and 1, and each subsequent number is the sum of the previous two.

They also appear in biological settings, such as branching in trees, phyllotaxis (the arrangement of leaves on a stem), the fruit sprouts of a pineapple, the flowering of the artichoke, an uncurling fern and the arrangement of a pine cone.

The exhibition was created in co-operation with the Innovatum Science Centre and Tekniska Museet in Sweden, the Z(in)oo Science Centre in Latvia, the Energy Discovery Centre in Estonia and the Department of Teacher Education of the University of Helsinki in Finland.
